4-Star PG Makes College Choice: Where Will He Land?

The race to secure the services of prized 2024 point guard Daquan Davis is nearing its conclusion. The highly-touted Baltimore native, who decommitted from Providence last October, has whittled his options down to two prominent programs: Georgia Tech and Florida State. Davis, a 6-foot-1 floor general renowned for his scoring prowess and court vision, is slated to make his highly-anticipated college announcement on Sunday, March 24th.

Davis’s recruitment has been a rollercoaster ride, with the Overtime Elite (GA) standout initially pledging his allegiance to the Friars before reopening his process in the latter stages of 2022. Since then, a cadre of elite programs has clamored for his services, but it’s the Yellow Jackets and Seminoles who have emerged as the frontrunners.

For Davis, the allure of playing under the tutelage of former NBA point guard Damon Stoudamire at Georgia Tech is undeniable. “Georgia Tech stands out to me because of head coach Damon (Stoudamire),” Davis explained. “He was a point guard at the highest level, one I want to reach, and not only that, he was a small guard like me. So, me playing for him would help me develop into an NBA guard I feel.”

Florida State, however, has made an equally compelling case, with Davis praising the program’s renowned head coach, Leonard Hamilton. “The Florida State visit was good,” Davis reflected. “It was great getting to see them play and see the play style that they play with. Coach Hamilton is a great guy and very thorough, and that’s the type of coach I want to coach me. My favorite part about the visit was me getting to know coach Hamilton more. I was familiar with him, but I felt like it was a start to a good relationship.”

Regardless of his eventual destination, Davis’s talent is undeniable. This season at Overtime Elite, the crafty floor general averaged an impressive 17.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, showcasing his ability to impact the game in myriad ways. His exploits have earned him a lofty ranking among the nation’s elite prospects, slotting in at No. 103 overall and No. 13 among point guards in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

As the college basketball world eagerly awaits Davis’s decision, one thing is certain: whichever program secures his commitment will be adding a dynamic, game-changing talent to its roster. Whether it’s the ACC’s Seminoles or the ACC-bound Yellow Jackets, Davis’s arrival is sure to send shockwaves throughout the collegiate ranks and elevate his future team’s prospects on the hardwood.
