Bucks Host Suns in Rematch: Will Giannis Suit Up?
The Bradley Center is set to host a clash of titans on Sunday as Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks welcome Devin Booker’s Phoenix Suns. This marquee matchup is a rematch of last season’s epic NBA Finals series that saw the Bucks prevail in six hard-fought games to capture their first championship in 50 years.
While the stakes may not be quite as high this time around, there is still plenty of intrigue surrounding this interconference showdown. For the Bucks, the biggest storyline is the potential return of Khris Middleton from injury. The All-Star swingman has been sidelined since late February with a knee issue but is expected to suit up against the Suns. His presence alongside Antetokounmpo could provide a massive boost for Milwaukee’s title hopes.
Speaking of the Greek Freak, his availability remains a major question mark due to a nagging hamstring injury. Antetokounmpo is officially listed as questionable on the injury report after missing the Bucks’ last two contests. If he is unable to go, the offensive burden will once again fall on the shoulders of Middleton, Jrue Holiday and the supporting cast.
The Suns, meanwhile, will be shorthanded themselves with guards Damion Lee and Josh Okogie ruled out. But they still possess more than enough firepower to give the Bucks problems, led by the backcourt duo of Booker and Chris Paul. The two All-Stars have picked up right where they left off last year, keeping Phoenix near the top of the Western Conference standings.
When these teams met back in February, it was the Suns emerging victorious by a 114-106 score as Booker erupted for 35 points. Antetokounmpo poured in 33 of his own that night but didn’t get enough help to counter Phoenix’s balanced attack. The rematch on Sunday provides the perfect opportunity for Milwaukee to even the season series.
From a historical perspective, the Suns actually own a 105-93 edge in the all-time series with the Bucks. However, Milwaukee has had the upper hand of late, winning two of the last three meetings dating back to their Finals triumph. Oddsmakers are expecting another tightly-contested affair, installing the Bucks as just 2.5-point home favorites.
Regardless of which side comes out on top, fans around the world are in for an entertaining duel between two of the NBA’s elite teams. With playoff seeding potentially on the line for both clubs, you can expect an intense, high-stakes atmosphere befitting of a Finals rematch. Will Giannis be able to overcome his injury woes and lead the Bucks to a statement victory? Or will Booker, Paul and the Suns demonstrate why they are a force to be reckoned with once again? Tune in on Sunday to find out.
