Cricket World Cup 2024: Resale Prices Soar as More Tickets Go on Sale

As the cricketing world gears up for the highly anticipated ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup in 2024, cricket enthusiasts in the New York metro area are scrambling for tickets. The demand for matches featuring cricket powerhouses like India has skyrocketed to unprecedented levels, with resale prices reaching staggering heights of $15,000 for some games.

In a bid to cater to this overwhelming demand, tournament organizers have announced the release of previously unavailable tickets for two marquee matches: India vs. Ireland on June 5 and USA vs. India on June 12. These tickets will go on sale to the public starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, providing a glimmer of hope for fans desperate to witness these monumental clashes.

The frenzy surrounding these matches is palpable, with ticket prices on resale sites like StubHub soaring to dizzying heights. For the India vs. Ireland match, the lowest resale price currently listed is $301, while the most expensive ticket, a Section VIP Box, commands a staggering $11,316. Similarly, for the highly anticipated USA vs. India clash, the lowest resale price is $272, while the highest reaches an eye-watering $14,790 after factoring in fees.

Chris Tetley, the head of events for the International Cricket Council (ICC), acknowledged the overwhelming demand, stating, “We are delighted to have worked with our commercial partners to be able to release these additional tickets to 51 matches to ensure that we are accommodating as many fans as possible at every ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 fixture. The demand has been exceptionally strong for matches at venues across both the West Indies and USA, so we encourage fans to secure their World Cup experience as soon as possible to be part of what will be a historic event.”

The T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 1 to June 29, will showcase the second-most-watched sport in the world, with an estimated global fanbase of 2.5 billion people, according to the 2023 World Atlas. Twenty teams, including powerhouses like England, Pakistan, Australia, India, and New Zealand, will compete in the month-long tournament, which will also feature the host nations, the USA and West Indies.

The demand for tickets has been unprecedented, with over 3 million ticket applications received during the initial application period in early February, before the general sale began on February 22. Four matches have already sold out, including the much-anticipated India vs. Pakistan clash on June 9, further fueling the frenzy for the remaining matches.

Along with match tickets, fans will have the opportunity to purchase premium private suites and individual food and beverage packages for all the matches at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in East Meadow, Long Island, and venues across the West Indies.

As the cricket fever reaches new heights, fans are leaving no stone unturned to secure their place in history and witness the action unfold at the T20 World Cup 2024. With the release of additional tickets, the organizers hope to satisfy the insatiable appetite of cricket enthusiasts and ensure a truly global celebration of this beloved sport.
