This decision, which came to light only when Ruturaj Gaikwad turned up for the captains’ photoshoot ahead of CSK’s opening match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has opened up a plethora of tactical possibilities for the team, thanks to the newly introduced Impact Player rule.

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a severe blow ahead of their IPL 2024 title defense, with two of their star performers from last season ruled out due to injuries. As the Chennai-based franchise gears up to begin their campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore next week, they will be missing the services of Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana and New Zealand opener Devon Conway for at least the first half of the tournament.
